Cake Auction Raises Money for Frederick County 4-H

The grand champion cake sold for over $5,000

Frederick, MD – The Great Frederick Fair opened this weekend hosting a variety of programs and activities, including the 4-H cake auction that raised thousand of dollars for Frederick County 4-H programs.

Individuals and local businesses bid on assorted bake goods including the Overall Grand Champion Pie that sold for over $700 to LS Fuel.

11-year-old Brenden Arnold baked the blueberry pie and has been with 4-H almost 6 years.

“When you put it in the oven, it comes out as something completely different than what you put it in as,” Arnold said. “That’s what really interests me, the transformation it goes through.”

Josie Martin, 8, baked the Grand Champion Cake of the fair with a buttermilk layer cake with peanut butter icing. Her cake was bought by Tri-State Home Services for $5,100.

“I have been in 4-H for one year,” Martin said. “[I] do it for fun.”

All proceeds from the auctions went towards Frederick County 4-H programs, the camp and activity center, and the 4-H Royalty Scholarship.
