Teens Charged in Fatal Fair Punch Face Possible Additional Charges

The victim has been identified as John Weed from Mt. Airy

Frederick, Md. (DG) – Frederick County States Attorney Charlie Smith is meeting with detectives from the sheriff’s office this morning to discuss additional charges for the teens involved in the fatal assault of a 59-year-old man at the Frederick Fair last Friday.

The man died on Saturday at Shock Trauma in Baltimore. His body was taken to the medical examiner’s for an autopsy.

Witnesses said the attack was unprovoked. The victim has been identified as John Weed from Mt Airy, Md.

Frederick County Sheriff Chuck Jenkins said Mr. Weed was attending the fair with his sister and niece when the assault happened.

Two juveniles were arrested for the assault. A 15-year-old male is charged with first- and second-degree assault, and a 16-year-old male is charged with second-degree assault. The boys are brothers.

The investigation is continuing.
