Mike Spurrier said the mayor is telling him to resign or retire

Frederick, Md. (DG) – The Executive Director of the Frederick Community Action Agency, Mike Spurrier, was asked by Frederick Mayor Michael O’Connor to either resign or retire.

The information was released in an email from Spurrier. He has worked for the agency since 1988.

The email states in a meeting on October 9, 2019, Spurrier met with Mayor O’Connor, City Attorney Saundra Nickols and Director of Human Resources Karen Paulson and was given a two-page termination letter indicating that his last day on the job would be October 17, 2019.

Spurrier wants the Board of Alderman to vote on his termination during a workshop this afternoon at City Hall. The email states people are allowed to comment on anything during the public comments sections of the meeting.

After the workshop today the Board of Aldermen will hold a closed session.
