Rt. 140 Bridge in Emmitsburg Scheduled to Finish by End of Year

The bridge has faced delays in the past.

Emmitsburg, MD – Work to replace the bridge on the Route 140 in Emmitsburg is expected to be completed by the end of the year, according to the State Highway Administration.

The $4.3 million construction project began in 2016 and was originally scheduled to finish in 2018, but has since experienced several delays.

ShanteƩ Felix of the SHA said significant rainfalls and the relocation of a water line contributed to the delays.

“We share the public’s frustration with these delays,” Felix said. “we’re working to get it completed as quickly as possible.”

The SHA reports about 5,000 motorists use the stretch of Route 140 every day.

Felix said the SHA is continuing to address concerns about the delays through periodic meetings with the public.

“We thank you for your patience,” Felix said. “We’re working hard to get this complete as quickly as we can.”
