The funds will go towards helping cancer patients within the community.
Frederick, MD – The Bettie Jane Foundation is hosting their 8th annual Gala this month, raising funds to support cancer patients within the community.
Foundation Founder, Bettie Jane Bryant was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2008 and underwent treatments until she was declared cancer free in 2009.
While undertaking chemotherapy, Bryant began hosting fundraising 5ks that resulted in over $95,000 being raised for The Cancer Care Center of Frederick.
This led to the Bettie Jane Foundation non-profit being established in 2011, dedicated to helping cancer patients in Frederick, Washington and Allegany County.
“It’s all stages of cancer, and it’s all kinds of cancer,” Bryant said. “Everyone’s fighting a battle at some time in their life.”
The foundation has since helped over 150 applicants, assisting with copays, insurance premiums, wigs, utility bills and more.
“Anything that they need that we have in our guidelines that will take that stress off of them” Bryant said. “It’s stressful when you’re going through chemo, it’s not a fun time.”
The 8th annual Bettie Jane Cancer Foundation Gala is at the Walkersville Social Hall on October 27 and will be catered by Dutch’s Daughter. The event features food, auctions, raffles and more.
