WV Rep Alex Mooney Shares Phone Call from SCIF Room

Republicans protested the closed-door interview of a witness.

Washington, D.C.- West Virgina Representative Alex Mooney was among over 30 Republicans that stormed a closed-door impeachment deposition at the Capitol on Wednesday morning.

Mooney shared audio of a phone call he made from inside the Sensitive Compartmented Information Facility (SCIF) while protesting the closed-door testimony from Laura Cooper, a Pentagon official responsible for Ukraine policy.

“I represent over 600,000 people in West Virginia who are not given a right to know what’s even said in these hearing as they brazenly attempt, for no reason, to impeach the president of the United States,” Mooney said. ā€œIā€™m proud that over 30 members of Congress, including our whip, Steve Scalise, walked into that room and demanded transparency and justice for our president.ā€

13 of the Republcans reported to have had participated in the protest already had permission to enter the hearing due to the committees they sit on.

The Republicans delayed the hearing for about 5 hours.

Mooney and other Republicans have come under fire for possibly violating SCIF rulese which prohibit all unauthorized cellphones, laptops or any other electronic devices inside a SCIF.

“I’m proud to be standing for our president,” Mooney said.
