Three Men Charged Following Armed Robbery, Barricade Incident

Police used Special Response, Crisis Negotiation Teams  to end standoff.

 

 

Frederick, Md (KM) Frederick Police have charged three men following an assault and barricade situation Wednesday morning. Bennie Hampton, 22, is charged with armed robbery, robbery, 1st- and 2nd-degree assault, theft less than $1500, use of a firearm in a violent crime, conspiracy to commit robbery, armed robbery, conspiracy to commit 1st- and 2nd-degree assault and theft less than $1500. Kiyewon Edward Barnes, 24, is charged with robbery, 1st- and 2nd-degree assault, theft less than $1500 and conspiracy to commit robbery, 1st- and 2nd-degree assault, and theft less than $1500. Craig Alexander Walker, 32, is charged with robbery, 1st- and 2nd-degree assault, theft less than $1500 and conspiracy to commit robbery, 1st- and 2nd-degree assault and theft less than $1500.

Shortly before 11:00 AM, officers were called to the 1300 block of Motter Avenue to investigate reports of an armed robbery. The victim told the police he knew the suspects, and pointed out the apartment where the incident occurred.

Police located the unit and believed the suspects were armed. After knocking on the door and getting no response, the Special Response and Crisis Negotiating Teams were activated. After about an hour and a half of discussion, the five occupants came out and were taken custody. Hampton, Barnes and Walker were the only ones charged.

A woman who was inside the unit was taken to the hospital for an evaluation. The victim of the assault was treated for minor injuries.

Frederick Police thank   the community for their support, patience and understanding during this incident. Authorities say they also thank the Sheriff’s Office for their assistance in providing their SWAT team.
