City of Brunswick Hosts 87th Annual Veterens Day Parade

The event is rain or shine

Brunswick, MD – One of the longest running Veterans Day parades is in the city Brunswick this Sunday, marking its 87th year of festivities.

The event features several speakers to open the ceremony as well as over 100 groups participating in the parade.

Shaun Butcher coordinated the event and said they welcome anyone who would like to celebrate.

“The city of Brunswick has a proud tradition and history with patriotism,” Butcher said. “Every year for the past 87 years, we’ve communed as a community as a reason to honor our veterans.”

The open ceremony starts at 1 p.m. and features Brigadier General Michael J. Talley, the Commanding General of the U.S. Army Medical Research and Development Comman, as the keynote speaker.

Brunswick’s Mayor Jeff Snoots and Colonel Gregory Jackson, Army Garrison Chaplain at Fort Detrick, will also speak at the ceremony among others.

One of the honorary parade marshals is Air Force Veteran Libby Westphal, who served overseas and stateside as an intelligence analyst. She is the reigning Mrs. USA.

The parade starts at 2 p.m. and will include groups ranging from marching bands to veteran and military groups walking through downtown Brunswick.
