House Explosion in Charles Town Injuries 2

One victim was flown to Medstar Washington Hospital Center and the other to a local hospital

Charles Town, WV (DG) – A home in Jefferson County, West Virginia exploded Monday, injuring two people inside.

The home is located on Cloverdale Drive in Charles Town. The explosion happened around 1 p.m. and completely destroyed the house.

Witnesses say the homeowners had problems with their propane furnace on Sunday. A HVAC technician arrived at the home on Monday to work on the furnace and smelled gas. The technician and homeowner started opening windows when the explosion happened.

The technician was airlifted to Medstar Washington Hospital Center, and the second victim was taken to Jefferson Medical Center.

Between 40-50 firefighters from West Virginia and Virginia responded to the scene.

The exact cause of the explosion has not been determined.

The investigation is continuing.
