Two Teens Charged In Fatal Fair Assault To Remain In Detention

Detention hearings are scheduled for both in December.

Frederick, Md (KM) In Frederick County Circuit Court on Tuesday, a judge ruled that the two teenagers charged with the fatal assault at the Great Frederick Fair will remain in juvenile detention.

The State’s Attorney’s Office says Judge Julie Stevenson Solt ordered that the 15-year-old remain behind bars until his next detention hearing on December 18th. His 16-year-old brother will also remain incarcerated  until a detention hearing on December 3rd. He will also have another hearing on December 18th.

Both were arrested following the assault of John Weed, Jr. 59, of Mount Airy on Friday, September 20th. Weed was flown to Shock Trauma, but died the next day.

The 15-year-old youth is charged with manslaughter, along with two counts of 2nd-degree assault, and one count of 1st-degree assault. The 16-year-old is charged with two counts of 2nd-degree assault.

The judge also denied a defense request on Tuesday to close the courtroom because the 16-year-old is a juvenile.
