Mt. Airy Man Found Guilty In Federal Court In Bribery Scheme

He’s expected to be sentenced in March.

Greenbelt, Md (KM) A Mount Airy man was convicted Friday of federal charges in a scheme to bribe an official with a subsidiary of Russia’ s State Atomic Energy Corporation… A jury in US District Court in Greenbelt found Mark Lambert, 56, guilty of four counts of violating the Foreign Corrupt Practices Act, one count of conspiracy to violate that law, and two counts of wire fraud. The jury found him not-guilty of three counts of violating the Federal Corrupt Practices Act, and of money laundering. The conviction follows a three-week trial.

The US Attorney’s Office for Maryland says Lambert is the former President of Transport Logistics International, and was involved in a scheme to bribe Vadim Mikerin, an official at JSC Techsnabexprot –or TENEX–a company which supplies uranium and uranium enrichment services to nuclear power companies across the globe, Federal officials says Lambert was looking to secure contracts with TENEX. The bribes were concealed through fake invoices for services never provided, and money was wired to shell companies in Latvia, Cyprus and Switzerland.

Lambert is scheduled to be sentenced on March 9th, 2020. Federal officials say he faces a maximum of 20 years in federal prison for each of two counts of wire fraud; a maximum five years each for the four counts of violating the FCPA. But the US Attorney’s Office says sentences for federal crimes are typically less than the maximum penalties.

Vadim Mikerin, 60, is a Russian official who formerly resided in Chevy Chase, Md. The US Attorney’s Office say Mikerin pleaded guilt to conspiracy to commit money laundering involving violations of the FCPA. He was sentenced to four years in federal prison.
