State’s Attorney to Speak at Overdose and Prevention Vigil

It will feature various speakers.

Frederick, MD – The 4th Annual Overdose and Prevention Vigil is Tuesday night at Frederick Community College, featuring speakers and a candlelight vigil to memorialize lost friends and family.

State’s Attorney Charlie Smith will be an included speaker, and leadership from Frederick County law enforcement and fire will also be present.

“We’re excited to just allow people to come out and remember their lost ones,” Smith said. “This is something we found to be a void in the community.”

Smith said while there are various resources within the county for recovery, the vigil provides a method in which people can remember those that lost their lives to addiction.

“This year once again will be an emotional look at the reality impacting so many in the community,” State’s Attorney Spokesperson Will Cockey said. “We hope that the evening will serve as an opportunity to remember lost loved ones and a for families to connect in support.”

Ten local agencies and non-profits including the sheriff’s office an Narcotics Anonymous will be present at the event, and will have tables to provide resources to anyone that needs help.

The event will be in the FCC Student Center on December 3 from 6-8pm.
