Frederick County Council Picks Three Candidates for Seat on Board of Education

One of the three will be selected by the County Executive then sent back to the council for approval.

Frederick, MD – Three of six candidates were selected by the Frederick County Council Tuesday night to be considered for a seat on the Board of Education.

The council took public testimony at the meeting, then voted on which three names will be sent to County Executive Jan Gardner for consideration.

“We had an amazing group of applicants,” Council President M.C. Keegan- Ayer said. “They all come with their own individual attributes where any one of them would be beneficial to the group dynamics of the board of education.”

The candidates selected were Rae Gallagher receiving four votes, Susan Johnson receiving six, and Ron Peppe receiving six. Peppe was a former member of the board.

One of the three candidates will be picked by Executive Gardner who’s decision will then be sent back to the council for a vote.

In addition to the candidates chosen, the council also announced the appointment of a new Director of Citizens Services Division.

Executive Gardner appointed Christine Kay where she will supervise and oversee multiple boards and departments including the Child Advocacy Center, the Human Relations Department, and the Department of Housing and Community Development.
