Member Of Frederick County State’s Attorney’s Office Named To National Advisory Board

The board will look at ways to fight and prevent internet crimes.

Frederick, Md (KM) A member of the Frederick County State’s Attorney’s Office has been named to a national advisory task force to fight online  abuse, fraud, human trafficking and other internet crimes. Chief Counsel Joyce King was chosen to serve on the ten-member board put together by the National District Attorneys Association.

King says she’s ‘ ‘privileged and excited” to be part of this board. “NDAA reached out to our office and me particularly because of my role in prosecuting child exploitation and starting the Frederick County Cyber Crimes Task Force. So I’m excited to bring my perspective and experience to the advisory board,” she says.

The advisory board is made up of professionals  who are familiar with internet crimes. “We’re going to be drawing on our diverse array of experiences. I think some of us are prosecutors, law enforcement, state and local government organizations. And we’re going to be talking about best practices and setting an agenda to fight online abuse, fraud human trafficking and all other internet crimes,” says King.

She says no time line has been developed to come up with recommendations on how to fight and prevent internet crimes. King expects the panel to begin meeting in the new year.

King says, unfortunately, these types of crimes are on the rise in Frederick County. “There hasn’t been a week that has gone by that there hasn’t been an open investigation,” she says. “Primarily for our Task Force, we get referrals from the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children and cybertips. And there are hundreds of cybertips generated in Maryland a day.”
