Dr. Ernesto Torres will serve his time in the Frederick County Adult Detention Center.
FREDERICK, MD. (LG) A Frederick doctor received the maximum penalty Monday morning from a circuit court judge for 2nd degree assault and a 4th degree sex offense.
“We were very pleased that the judge gave Frederick Pediatrician Ernesto Torres the maximum of one year in the Frederick County Adult Detention Center,” said Charles Smith, Frederick County States Attorney.
“If you remember we had a 3 day bench trial that ultimately found Dr. Torres guilty of just 2nd degree assault and 4th degree sex offense. We obviously disagreed at the time of Judge Nicholas’ trial verdict, but we felt that it nevertheless warranted the maximum of one year for the 4th degree sex offense, and that’s what he got.”
Dr. Torres had been on trial and was found guilty for sexually abusing an 18 year old woman who was one of his life long patients. Smith says there are other alleged crimes against Dr. Torres by victims claiming he abused them when they were his patients. He says the Frederick Police Department is continuing to investigate those cases.
