Fire Damages Home, Post Office in Burkittsville

10 people were displaced.

 

Burkittsville, Md (KM) Ten people were displaced following a house fire in Burkittsville  Sunday morning  which also damaged the town’s post office.

Fire and rescue units were dispatched to 10 East Main Street at 7:09 AM for a house on fire with flames showing through the roof. Frederick County Fire and Rescue officials say a tanker task force, the Rapid Intervention Task Force and the Fire Task Force were called to the scene. When they arrived, they found the U-S Post Office and the home fully involved in flames.

It took 75 fire fighters 90-minutes to bring the fire under control.

The home which had been converted into apartments was occupied at the time. All residents were able to get out safely. One resident was taken to Frederick Health Hospital for an evaluation. A fire fighter was transported to Meritus Medical Center in Hagerstown after a fall.

The residents who were displaced are being assisted by the Red Cross.

A cause and damage estimate for the fire is under investigation.
