Frederick,Md (KM) Property at 7516 Hayward Road which was owned by the City of Frederick is now in the hands of the Religious Coalition. In a statement, the city says it closed on the sale of the parcel on Monday, December 23rd for a price of $1. . The Board of Aldermen agreed to the sale on August 16th, 2018.

The Coalition says a portion of the property, including an historic farmhouse, will be used to expand the non-profit’s emergency family shelter from 15 to 50 residents. . Construction is scheduled to begin in the middle of 2020, and be completed by the following year, which is the Coalition’s 40th anniversary.

“We are excited about the progress with the property so far. We’ve previously utilized a scattered site approach to shelter families, and we’ve always known that we’ve needed a fixed, permanent site, and the farmhouse provides that opportunity,” says Nick Brown, the Executive Director of the Religious Coalition, in a statement. “This has already been a significant collaboration with the City, and we are grateful for their energy for the project. We hope to make this a wide-ranging community effort to show how supportive, collaborative and generous Frederick can truly be.”

The half-acre property was formerly owned by the Public School System   The city purchased it in 2013, and used part of it to construct a new water tower.
