Local GOP says it calls Republicans ‘Nazis.’
Frederick, Md (KM) The Frederick Democrats’ Facebook post is causing some angry reactions. The local Republican Central Committee says it calls the GOP and its supporters “Nazis.”
The post says “75 years ago, patriotic Americans went to France to throw out the Nazis. All you need to do is go to the polls.” The Republicans Central Committee says on its website “they are blatantly saying that Democrats and those who vote for them are the only people who are ‘Patriotic Americans.’ while Republicans and Republican candidates are Nazis.”
In a statement, the Democrat State Central Committee says “We stand by our post, which was a comment on our country’s democratic values and the importance of voting.”
“Rhetoric like that is just stupid and dumb,” says Frederick County Republican State Senator Michael Hough. “It’s very dangerous too because deranged people see stuff like that.” Hough was speaking Friday to host Bob Miller on “The Morning News Express” on WFMD.
“The Frederick County Democratic elected officials I can’t believe any of them would agree with this,” he continues. “But you know what: it’s on their official party page. And the people that posted that are elected. They’re Democratic Central Committee members like our Republicans are.”
The Republican Central Committee calls this hate speech and bigotry which “ties in nicely with all of the other hate speech we saw from Democrats last year.” “This partisan rhetoric and craziness is really gotten out of hand when you can have an organized party in our county basically call half of the other county’s population Nazis. It’s a very dangerous, divisive and completely wrong,” says Hough.
The Democratic State Central Committee says the Republican Central Committee “is manufacturing fake outrage for some reason. They re not talking about ideas or polices, just reacting to what we say or do.”
With similar comments, the Republican Central Committee says “clearly, Frederick County Democrats have no interest in campaigning this year on the issues. They plan on making the campaign one of demagoguery, sensationalism and hate. It shows how Democrats in Maryland, particularly in Frederick County, are bankrupt of idea as to how to help Marylanders and intent on running an unserious and petty campaign.”
Which brings this question from the Democratic Central Committee: “Are they {Republicans} running scared now that we outnumber them in the county, or do they actually object to fighting tyranny,” it asks.
Current voter registration statistics released by the Frederick County Board of Elections on Friday show the number of registered Democrats at 67,751, and registered Republicans at 67,735. While the Democrats have a slight edge over the GOP, the Board of Elections says both parties’ registrations are even at 37.8%.
