Fire Damages Home In Sykesville

Cause under investigation.

 

Sykesville, Md (KM) There were no injuries reported from a house fire in Sykesville on Friday afternoon.

The Maryland State Fire Marshal’s Office says fire fighters were dispatched to 1008 Courtland Drive just before 2:30 PM, and spent ten-minutes bringing the flames under control.

The owner of the home identified as Bill Wilson and his mother-in-law who lived there, Mary Ann Byrne, were in the basement when they heard a strange noise, and saw smoke and flames coming from an upstairs bedroom. They were able to get out safely.

Damage to the home is estimated at $25,000 to the structure and $25,000 to the contents..

The Fire Marshal’s Office says the fire started in the attic, but the cause remains under investigation. Officials say an unspecified electrical failure cannot be ruled out.
