Election Board Reports Registered Democrats Slightly Outnumber Republicans Within Frederick County

They report a 4% increase in registered voters since the 2018 election.

Frederick, MD – The Frederick County Board of Elections released voter registration numbers on Friday, highlighting that registered Democrats have slightly outnumbered registered Republicans.

According to a news release by the board, 67,751 (37.8%) Frederick County citizens are registered as Democrats, 67,735 (37.8%) are registered as Republicans, and 43,923 are registered as unaffiliated.

“Unaffiliated are known as Independent,” Frederick County Election Director Stuart Harvey said. “[They] are the fastest growing group of voters in the county and they’re at 24.4%.”

There are also 19 registered members of the Bread and Roses Party, a party recently recognized by the State Board of Elections.

The current active voter registration for Frederick County has grown by 4% since the 2018 election, adding 6,521 people to a total voter base of 179,428.

Harvey said Frederick County residents interested in voting in the April 28 2020 Presidential Primary Election must be registered by 9 p.m. on Tuesday April 7.
