MD Comptroller Announces Candidacy for Governor

He’s the first candidate to publicly confirm plans to campaign in 2022.

Annapolis, Md. Maryland Comptroller Peter Franchot confirmed Thursday that he will be running for governor in 2022.

Franchot was first elected comptroller in 2006 and was re-elected in 2018 for a fourth four-year term as the state’s tax collector.

He said he would treat the position in a similar way he currently runs the comptroller’s office: respect, responsibility and results to taxpayers.

Franchot, a Democrat, is the first to declare his candidacy for Maryland Governor in 2022.

Republican Gov. Larry Hogan is term limited and will complete his second consecutive term in 2022.
