Frederick Man Sentenced For Sexually Abusing A Young Girl

He will also be required to register as a sex offender for life.

Frederick, Md (KM). A Frederick man will be spending some time in prison for sexually abusing a young girl. Jose Camilo Lopez-Reyes, 35, was sentenced on Thursday by Circuit Court Judge Theresa Adams to 25-years incarceration, with all but eight years to serve. He will also be placed on five-years supervised probation when he’s released, and will be required to register for life as a sex offender.

State’s Attorney Charlie Smith says Lopez-Reyes sexually abused a girl between 2011 and 2013. “Back in 2017, Frederick Police Detectives began an investigation into an alleged sexual assault by Lopez-Reyes after a 12-year-old victim disclosed this information to a counselor,” Smith says. “The victim stated the defendant engaged in multiple sex acts on her on several occasions.”

On October 15th, 2019, Lopez-Reyes pleaded guilty to one count of sexual abuse of a minor. The offense dates were  from January 1st, 2011 to January 1st, 2013, according to court documents.

Smith says these sex abuse cases where the victim is a child are very difficult. “Crimes against children are the worst kind. That’s why we want high guideline sentences on all these offenders; and,of course, we want them to register for life. Not that may be a problem from him due to his immigration status. But, nevertheless, five years of probation. If he screws up, he’s backing up 17 {years}. We’re happy that he’s in prison, that’s for sure,” says Smith.

When he completes his sentence, Smith say Lopez-Reyes will probably be deported.
