Smithsburg Man Flown To Burn Center In Washington DC

Officials he tried to put out a fire at this home.

 

Smithburg, Md (KM) A 72-year-old man was medivaced to the Burn Center at Medstar Washington Hospital Center Monday morning following a house fire in Smithsburg.

The Maryland State Fire  Marshal’s Office says shortly after 9:00 AM, the man and his wife were alerted by a smoke alarm. at their home in the 22,000 block of Beaverbrook Drive. The two saw smoke coming from the basement. Both got out of the home, but the man entered the basement from the outside, supposedly to put out the fire..

A neighbor came by and told the man to get out. He did, but then went back inside.

An off-duty fire fighter entered the home and got the man out.. Medics treated the man at the scene before he was flown out.

The Fire Marshal’s Office says the man is currently in critical condition.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
