Storm Damage Keeps Fire Crews Busy Friday Morning In New Market

Weather Service to investigate if a tornado touched down in the area.

 

 

New Market, Md (KM) Fire and rescue crews were working in the New Market area following a powerful storm which blew through on Friday morning.

Frederick County Fire and Rescue Services says units responded to Routes 75 and 80 for a report of wires down, and implemented road closures. They were also sent to Jesse Smith Road for a tree into a house and a vehicle rollover. No one was hurt in either incident, but fire officials say an occupant of the home was unable to get out.

A tornado warning was issued at 7:46 AM   The National Weather Service says it’s investigating whether a twister touched down in the area on Friday morning.

Fire fighters responded to over 20 calls from the Route 75 area in Green Valley through the Old Annapolis Road in Mount Airy. Officials say numerous trees and utility lines were brought down, and several outbuildings were damaged or destroyed. One home is being assessed at this time.
