Rt 15 improvements is number one.
Annapolis, Md (KM) Frederick County’s transportation priorities received approval Thursday from the Legislative Delegation. The County Executive presented the list to the delegates and state senators during the Delegation meeting in Annapolis.
Topping the list was improvements to Route 15 between Interstate 70 and Route 26. “As you know, the traffic is a nightmare both in the morning and in the evening so we have prioritized that,” says Delegate Jesse Pippy, who chairs the Delegation.
The other priorities include design funding for widening Route 85 between Ballenger Creek and Guilford Drive, and widening Route 194 from Route 26 to Devilbiss Bridge Road.
Pippy says another priority is constructing J-turns on Route 15 which allows a much safer way for drivers to enter the highway without having to cross over one of the lanes, and possibly get hit by a another vehicle. “You’ve probably seen over the past few years we’ve had several fatalities of individuals trying to navigate across 15. It’s become a major problem so we’re addressing that,” Pippy says.
Another priority is sidewalk improvements along Route 26 in Libertytown. “Anyone that’s ever done a parade through Libertytown knows that the sidewalks are in terrible shape. And so we’re going to see if we can get that on the State Highway list of priorities so we can address that,” says Pippy.
This priority list will be placed in a letter which will be sent to the Maryland Department of Transportation for inclusion in the State’s Consolidated Transportation Plan and be eligible for funding.
