Future of Sabillasville Elementary School Is Uncertain

The school may close due to low enrollment

Sabillasville, Md. (DG) – An informational meeting last night at Sabillasville Elementary turned into several hours of discussion about the future of the school.

The Frederick County Board of Education is considering possibly closing the 5-star school due to low enrollment.

Frederick County Public Schools Superintendent Dr. Terry Alban says even though it’s a top-performing school, it has a low enrollment of less than 80-students. The school’s capacity is 160. The kindergarten class has only seven students, and the others grades have no more than 20 students.

A public hearing regarding the school will take place March 11. The Board of Education will make a decision on the school’s future on March 25.
