Hood, Mt. St. Mary’s To Use Remote Learning

Both say it will minimize the spread of the coronavirus.

 

Frederick, Md (KM) Hood College is extending spring break for students by one week. School officials say this action is being taken to minimize the spread of the coronavirus.

The College will be closed from March 15th through the 21st to allow faculty members to prepare to teach their classes on line. That will begin on March 23rd.   Any decision about whether on line classes will be continue for the week of March 30th will be made by March 20th.

The School say students should not return to campus until further notice. Any students coming on campus following college-sanctioned trips must be prepared to depart within 24-hours of their arrival.

All non-essential college-related travel and on-campus events, including athletic practices and competitions, through Sunday, March 29th, are canceled.

Campus officials say offices will remain open to support students during this period of time.

Mount Saint Mary’s

 

Emmitsburg, Md (KM). Mount Saint Mary’s University say it has suspended face-to-face classroom instruction at both its Emmitsburg and Frederick campuses until Monday, March 30th The Mount says this decision was made following guidance from state and county health officials to minimize the spread of the coronavirus.

The faculty will make a transition to remote instruction which will be in effect until, Monday, March 30th. There will be no classes from Thursday, Mach 12th through Wednesday, March 18th, so instructors can prepare to teach their classes remotely.

The University says advising on course selection for 2020-2021 will be done remotely from March 18th through March 30th.

Students who are on campus in University housing are strongly encouraged to leave the campus by Saturday, March 14th, the University says. .

The Mount says it will remain open and all business operations will continue until further notice. But services such as the  Student Health Center, dining, the library and other activities may be limited.

There have been no reported coronavirus cases in Frederick County so far, local health officials say.
