Mt. Airy Cancels Community Meetings At Town Hall Due To Coronavirus

Employees are encouraged to work from home.

 

Mount Airy, Md (KM) The Town of Mount Airy is taking several steps to help prevent the spread of the coronavirus.

Officials say Town Hall will be closed in March and April to all public meetings, including volunteer meetings. Town Council and Planning Commission  meetings are under consideration, they say.

Staff are encouraged to work from home as their job duties allow, and a more liberal sick leave policy is in effect. The Town say there could some delays for non-essential services.

Citizens are encouraged to use the drop box at the Town Hall for bills and other correspondence. The front window will be closed and visitors who must come to the Town Hall will use a new pass-through slot which is being installed.

Mount Airy officials say events scheduled at the Town Hall will be canceled or rescheduled.   Notifications will be posted on the town website, www.mountairymd.gov.

The senior center, which is manged by the Carroll County Commissioners,  has been closed until further notice.

Mac “The Caboose” will also be close until further notice. The Town says the space does not allow for six-feet of separation as suggested.

In a statement, town officials say the safety of the community and the municipal staff is a number-one concern. They also say these actions support the state’s goal of slowing the spread of the novel coronavirus.
