Man Arrested Following Shooting In Hagerstown

Police say he was the intended target.

 

 

Hagerstown Md (KM) Hagerstown Police arrested a Gaithersburg man following a shooting late Thursday night. Andrew Neashawn Burke, 30, was taken into custody , and charged with weapons and drug offenses.

Shortly before 12-midnight, authorities were dispatched to the area of Mitchell Avenue for a shots-fired incident. They located a car that crashed into a home on Hammond Street. The driver identified as Burke was attempting to flee the scene. He was apprehended without incident.

Officers say a search of Burke’s car netted illegal drugs, a loaded handgun and cash. He is charged with firearm possession with a felony conviction, having a loaded handgun on his person, possession of firearms, illegal possession of ammunition, use of a firearm in a felony crime of violence, possession with intent to distribute drugs, three counts  of possession of a controlled dangerous substance, use of a firearm in drug trafficking and numerous traffic violations.

The incident is under investigation, but police believe Burke was the intended target, and this was an isolated incident. No suspect or suspects have been identified.

Two houses were struck by gunfire. In one,  a 13-year-old boy was grazed a bullet. He was taken to Meritus Medical Center as a precaution. His injuries are not life-threatening.
