Suspect Arrested In Fatal Shooting IN WV

He’s charged with 1st-degree murder.

Kearneysville, WV (KM) A suspect arrested in a fatal shooting early Monday morning has been charged with first-degree murder. Jeremy Newkirk, 31, was arrested at a home on Wood Farm Lane near Summit Point, West Virginia.

The Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office says he had called the Emergency Communications Center at 3:40 AM, and told dispatchers he had shot someone, and would be waiting on the steps of the home. The victim is identified as John Wilson, 27, who is believed to be living in Maryland, but had a Louisiana Driver’s License listing his address in Monroe, Louisiana.

Authorities say a woman and her young child were leaving the home on Wood Farm Lane after an argument with Newkirk. They say Wilson was loading the woman’s belongings into his vehicle when he was shot.

Newkirk was taken into custody without incident. He’s currently incarcerated at the Eastern Regional Jail.
