Washington County Fire Fighers, EMS Personnel Work With COVID-19 Patient

Three are isolation, two are working but wearing protective equipment. .

 

 

Hagerstown, Md (KM) The coronavirus has affected five emergency workers in Washington County.

The Joint Information Center says two Hagerstown fire fighters and three medics from the Community Rescue Service responded to a call on Friday, March 20th for a person in need of medical attention The patient could not be saved despite their best efforts, and was pronounced dead.

It was later learned that the deceased patient tested positive for COVID-19. As a result, the two fire fighters from Hagerstown are at home in self-isolation. Two of the CRS medics who responded are still at work, but they are wearing personal protective equipment as recommended by the Maryland Institute for Emergency Medical Services System.

A third medic was sent home after a developing a fever, and is in self-isolation,  is awaiting the results of a COVID-19 test.

The Joint Information Center says all of the others involved have displayed no symptoms of the coronavirus.
