Gov Hogan Announces Spending Freeze

Hogan announces actions for large budget hit due to virus

ANNAPOLIS, Md. (AP) – Maryland Gov. Larry Hogan is taking steps to address a huge hit projected to state revenues due to the coronavirus.

Hogan also announced Friday he will implement recommendations by the state elections board to strongly urge people to vote by mail for the June 2 primary. A small number of places will be available for people to vote in person. Comptroller Peter Franchot announced earlier in the day that the state is facing a potential loss of up to $2.8 billion in the fiscal year due to the virus.

Hogan has announced a spending freeze in all state government, except for COVID-19-related expenses and payroll to support state employees.
