Six soldiers have been assigned to the FCAA for this week.
Frederick, Md (KM) The Maryland National Guard is assisting the Frederick Community Action Agency. City officials say beginning on Tuesday, six soldiers will be working with the agency in the preparation and distribution of food and hygiene products to vulnerable Frederick residents. They will be here for the remainder of the week.
“During this public health crisis, we have areas of need in our City, and the National Guard is filling vital areas for us. We are thankful for the service of the Maryland National Guard, as well as our first responders and others who are continuing to aid our community,” said Mayor Michael O’Connor, in a statement.
Over the past month, the Community Action Agency says it’s been serving 150 carryout meals each night at the Soup Kitchen. Clients who come by for food will also receive a bag with a mask, thermometer, and hygiene products..
The Food Bank is also working with the Salvation Army to serve seniors and households. It operates Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM.
Food bags are also being delivered to Taney Village and Catoctin Manor, and through food drops at the Asian-American Center and Spanish Speaking Community of Maryland.
“We are working hard to meet the growing needs of our clients during this pandemic,”: said Janet Jones, Acting Director of the Community Action Agency, in a statement.. “The Maryland National Guard here will be a great addition to our staff as we continue to expand and adjust our services to meet the needs of our community.”
