Schools Are Closed For The Rest Of The Year

The State Superintendent of Schools says this is the best decision to combat COVID-19

 

Annapolis, Md (KM) The school year in Maryland is over. State Superintendent of Schools Doctor Karen Salmon announced on Wednesday during the Governor’s news conference that she has decided to close schools for the rest of the year. She says she is convinced this is the appropriate action. after extensive discussions with the Maryland Board of Education and health experts, . to protect the health and safety of students and staff. But Salmon said on line learning opportunities will continue, and the Maryland Education Department has a plan for local school system  for their recovery  from the COVID-19 pandemic.

Also at the news conference, Governor Larry Hogan announced that it’s not time to lift the stay at home order. He said the state has seen a downward trend in hospitalizations, and the I-C-U patients. He said if these trends continue into next week, the stay-at-home order could be lifted.

The Governor says hospitals can resume elective surgeries, and as of 7:00 AM  on Thursday, some outdoor activities can restart, such as golfing, tennis, boating, fishing and camping.
