It’s for those running for the 6th District Congressional Seat.
Hagerstown, Md (KM) Candidate forums are nothing new, but this one is a little different. The League of Women Voters of Washington County is holding a forum for the candidates in the 6th District Congressional race on line. “We’re going to do this using Zoom as a webinar type of approach,” says League President, Richard Wilson.
Instead of gathering in one place, the five candidates running for the House of Representatives will be broadcasting from remote locations, answering questions and making their positions known on the issues. “We will be social distancing as best we can in our homes,” says Wilson. “We will be relying on each person’s computer and their cameras and their microphones to pull it all together.”
The Primary Election is June 2nd.
The candidates running for the 6th District seat are incumbent Democrat David Trone, and Democratic challenger Maxwell Bero. The Republicans running in the race are Kevin Caldwell, Chris Meyyyer and Neil Parrott.
The League says this will be a forum, not a debate. Wilson says candidates will answer questions submitted by citizens. They will be screened by the League for appropriateness. If you want to send in a question, e-mail it to [email protected] now or during the forum..
But Wilson says candidates won’t be allowed to ask each other questions, but will have an opportunity to rebut any comments from their opponents. “Candidates can use the time they’re allotted to answer specific however they choose,” he says. “They will have an opportunity at the end of the program, each candidate, to give a two-minute summary. They could use that time to make sure that the voters understand where they stand on various issues.”
The forum will be moderated by Dr. Michael Powell, Professor of History at Frederick Community College.
The forum will take place on Thursday, May 21st at 7:00 PM. it will be broadcast over the Washington County League of Women Voters’ Facebook page (https://www.facebook.com/LWV.WashCoMD/) ; and the Frederick County League of Women Voters YouTube Channel. The program will be recorded and broadcast over Antietam Broadband on channels 806 and 6 from May 23rd to June 2nd at 6 00 PM each night.
The forum is sponsored by the League of Women Voters in Frederick and Washington Counties, The Frederick County Alumnae Chapter of the Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc., and Antietam Broadband.
