Repairs To Begin This Week On Harpers Ferry Footbridge

It’s expected to be completed in July.

 

 

Harpers Ferry, WV (KM) Repair work is expected to begin this week on the footbridge over the Potomac River at Harpers Ferry. The National Park Service says it has issued a permit to CSX to begin repairs which are expected to be completed by the end of July, assuming there are no delays due to the weather and the pandemic

The two entities are working to fund and operate a shuttle bus service for Appalachian Trail hikers and other visitors while the span is being repaired. The start date for the shuttle bus has not been determined.

The footbridge was damaged in the early morning hours of December 21st, 2019 when cars from a CSX freight train derailed.. The footbridge is attached to a railroad bridge

The footbridge is used by hikers, and visitors to the Harpers Ferry National Historical Park, C&O Canal National Historical Park, Potomac Heritage National Scenic Trail and the Appalachian National Scenic Trail.
