SHA urges motorists to drive safely & take precautions against COVID-19
Hanover, Md (KM) With the 4th of July coming, many Marylanders who have been cooped up due to the coronavirus pandemic are planning long holiday weekend road trips. The State Highway Administration reminds motorists to be safe when heading out to their favorite destinations.
“Buckle up. Use your seatbelt. Move over when approaching any emergency vehicles. Don’t drive after drinking. It’s sad that we even have to mention that, but it’s always a good reminder,” says Sherry Christian, spokeswoman for the SHA.
She also says it’s important to take precautions to avoid contracting the COVID-19 virus. “Masks work. Wear the mask when you can,” Christian says. “And keep that six-foot distance.”
Other advice includes washing your hands frequently, avoiding those who are sick and staying away from large crowds.
Christian says SHA will suspend all non-emergency lane and shoulder closures between Thursday, July 2nd and Monday, July 6th.
