16-Year-Old Involved In Deadly Frederick Fair Assault Pleads Guilty

The teen plead guilty to 2nd degree assault

 

 

Frederick, MD (DG)- The 16-year-old involved in the deadly Frederick Fair assault  last year  plead guilty this morning in Frederick County Circuit Court.

The 16-year-old plead guilty to 2nd degree assault in the September 2019 attack of John Weed of Mount Airy.

Mr. Weed was at the fair with his family when the 16-year-old and his 15-yer-old brother  asked Mr. Weed for money. Mr. Weed said no. The teens kept pursuing Mr. Weed while his family members kept asking the teens to leave him alone.

The 16-year-old punched Mr. Weed in the back of the head. As Mr. Weed squared up with the 16-year-old, his 15-year-old brother came running up from a distance and punched Mr. Weed.

Mr Weed   was knocked unconscious and fell to the ground hitting his head. As Mr. Weed was unconscious on the ground, the 16-year-old spat on him.

Mr. Weed was flown to Shock Trauma in Baltimore and died the next day due to his injuries.

A disposition hearing is scheduled for the 16-year-old on August 12. At that hearing the State will ask the court to commit the boy to a placement with the Department of Juvenile Services.

The 15-year-old plead guilty to manslaughter on April 29, 2020. He was placed in a long-term behavioral modification program.
