Changes Coming To Butterfly La. In Frederick

The intersection at Rt. 180 will be closed on Friday, July 17th.

Frederick, Md (KM) Motorists who travel Butterfly Lane on a regular basis will be noticing some new traffic patterns starting this week.

The City of Frederick says on Friday, July 17th, the intersection of Route 180 and Himes Avenue will be open to traffic, along with Contender Way and the new Himes Avenue extension. The current intersection at Butterfly Lane and Route 180 will be closed permanently to traffic.

City officials say this re-alignment is designed to improve traffic flow and prepare for the growth at Westside Regional Park. Kinsley Construction Inc., the project contractor, has constructed  a four-lane extension of Himes Avenue, a new two-lane road called Contender Way, and a new parking for the future Westside Regional Park.

According to a city news release, the project has also included the installation of a new water main, a sanitary sewer, a storm drainage system, stormwarter management faculties, sidewalks and shared use paths, landscaping, the installation of street and parking lot lights and forest conservation plantings.

The final part of this project will be the completion of a roundabout and the widening of Butterfly Lane between McCain Drive and Himes Avenue. That’s scheduled to be finished in November.
