A bridge in the town has been named in his honor.

Emmitsburg, Md (KM) Emmitsburg has not forgotten one of its long time fire fighters who died in the line of duty 21 years ago. A ceremony was held on Saturday dedicating a bridge along East Main Street in honor of Terry Lee Myers, who was a long time member of the Vigilant Hose Company.

Past President and current Board member of the company, Tim Clarke, said Myers was a  family man who had two brothers, Gene and Butch, who were also Vigilant Hose Company members. . “He was very proud of being a Vigilant Hose Company member. He was very proud of being a board member, making sure the company could be the best it was. Very vocal and opinionated as to what was best for the organization, and we appreciated his input everyday,” says Clarke.

The Vigilant Hose Company says Myers died on February 15th, 1999 after suffering a heart attack. He was responding to a brush fire on the Campus of Mount Saint Mary’s University near the Knott/PNC Arena. He was 50.

His funeral was held at St. Joseph’s Roman Catholic Church in Emmitsburg, with interment at Resthaven Memorial Gardens along Route 15 north of Frederick. Myers was a member of St. Joseph’s Church as well as the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 6658.

Myers’ wife, Wanda, and his son, Randy, are active members of the Vigilant Hose Company.

Clarke says even though Terry Myers has been gone for 21 years, he has not been forgotten. “We often speak of him at events. We always say ‘hey, what would Terry have done here.’ ‘Can you just imagine what Terry would be saying right now.’ His name is on our lips, and we think about him all the time,” says Clarke.
