Frederick Police Expand Use Of Body Worn Cameras

They will be assigned to all uniformed officers.

Frederick, Md (KM) The expansion of body worn cameras by Frederick Police Officers began last weekend on August 1st.

The city says all uniformed patrol officers, supervisors and patrol division commanders will be equipped with these devices, along with personnel from the Directed Patrol Unit. That brings to 85 the number of body worn cameras in operation.

“The Department is excited to expand the issuance of these devices to further demonstrate the Department’s commitment to accountability and transparency,” said Acting Chief Patrick Grossman in a statement. “In addition, additional images of evidentiary value collected through the use of these devices will assist with the adjudication of criminal investigations in partnership with the Frederick County State’s Attorney’s Office.”

The Police Department began using body worn cameras in 2016 with 18 of the devices provided to patrol division officers.
