New Life Sciences Firm Coming To Frederick County

Frederick, Md (KM) A new life sciences company is locating to Frederick County. The Office of Economic Development says Modavar Pharmaceuticals plans to occupy a 22,000 square-foot building in the 4600 block of Wedgewood Boulevard, Suite 0..

The facility is currently under construction. Modavar plans to move into its new home in December, and employ about 35 people.

“We choose Frederick County to be our new base for Research and Manufacturing of new and existing therapeutics because of the unmatched support we have received from the local government, and because of the infrastructure in the area,” says Khurshaid Kazmi, the Head of Engineering of Modavar Pharmaceuticals, in a statement. “We have noticed a speedy growth in technology hubs and that will attract scientists to come and settle in Frederick.”

The County says that Modavar plans to produce life-saving products  for a variety of health problems which will especially serve pediatric and geriatric patients adopting the new concept of individualized treatments. The company will run two manufacturing lines: one for liquids; the other for solids, using new technology.

“We are thrilled to have Modavar Pharmaceuticals join our strong life science community,” says Helen Propheter, the Executive Director of the Frederick County Office of Economic Opportunity, in a statement. “We recognize the tremendous economic benefit Modavar brings to our community and we are excited about their new technology.”

Due to the critical timing needs of the company, the Office of Economic Development says Modavar was approved for Frederick County’s Fast Track permitting, placing them as a top priority to meet its occupancy deadline.
