Fatal accident closed Route 97 in Carroll County for over two hours
Westminster, Md. (DG) – A 42-year-old Westminster man was killed after a deer struck a car he was riding in on Thursday morning.
The crash happened shortly before 6:45 AM on Route 97 near Bartholow Road in Carroll County.
According to Maryland State Police, 24-year-old Kellen Carnes was driving southbound on Route 97 in a Honda Accord when she struck a deer in the roadway, sending it into the northbound lanes.
As the deer was airborne, it went through the windshield of a Hyundai Santa Fe and struck the passenger Jason Blair, causing fatal injuries.
Route 97 was closed in both directions for over two hours.
The accident remains under investigation.
