South Frederick Small Area Plan To Be Drafted

It’s part of implementing Livable Frederick Master Plan.

Frederick, Md (KM) An advisory group has been  formed to help draft the small area plan for the South Frederick Corridors, which is the area along Routes 355 and 85.

County Executive Jan Gardner says it’s all part of implementing the Livable Frederick Plan. “Earlier this year, we began the hard work of putting our plan into action,” she said. “In January, before coronavirus arrived, we kicked off Livable Frederick implementation with the first of several small area plans. And by looking a small areas, we’re focusing on the distinct characteristics of each region.”

The first small area plan is for the Sugarloaf Mountain area. “For Sugarloaf, the Mountain’s history and its environment are what make it so special. Other areas of the county are defined by other factors and environmental features,” Gardner says.

The South Frederick Corridors also has its own features. “The land along Route 85 and 355 near Ballenger Creek is important because it’s the county primary business corridor. One out of every five jobs in Frederick County is located  in  that corridor,”: says Gardner.

An advisory group has been  formed which includes representatives of the business community, property owners in the area, the development community, and experts on transportation, housing and the environment. The panel will help put together a small area plan for the South Frederick Corridors with input from citizens.

A web page has also been set up. Residents can go to FrederickCountyMD.gov/SouthFrederickCorridors, where they can view meetings of the advisory group. It also has links to a briefing book and background information on the project, a general discussion forum and a “comment map” that allows citizens to submit comments.
