Montgomery County Police Warning Of Scammers Using Names Of Real MCP Officers

They’re demanding payments of fines.

 

 

Rockville, Md (KM) Montgomery County Police are warning citizens about a recent telephone scam, but this one has a twist: the scammer is using the names of actual Montgomery County Police Officers.

Authorities say some residents have received calls from a person stating he is a current Montgomery County Police Officer, and says that the victim has an outstanding fine. They need to pay it by sending money through a wire transfer, pre-paid cards or internet transaction. He tells the victims he is a police officers, and givesĀ  out phone numbers for them to call and verify the scammer’s identity.

Montgomery County Police say the Department will never call citizens to collect fines or solicit money.
