Annual Pink Ribbon 5k To Happen Virtually This Year

The Patty Hurwitz Breast Cancer Fund is celebrating 21 years as they host virtual 5k on October 9th through 11th.

Frederick, MD (KB) October is Breast Cancer Awareness month for the 1 in 8 women who could be diagnosed with breast cancer in this country. Patty Hurwitz was diagnosed with breast cancer 21 years ago. She credits her successful outcome to early detection and wanted to make a difference.

“I’m the founder of the Hurwitz Breast Cancer Fund, which celebrated its 20th year last year, so this year is 21 years for the fund,” noted Hurwitz. “Our events this year have to be a little bit different because of coronavirus,” she explained.

Because of the pandemic, one of their annual fundraisers is changing.

“We are still having our 5k, it’s virtual this year and it’s actually on October 9th to 11th, the whole weekend. You can register online at pinkribbonfrederick.org,” Hurwitz said.

Money raised from the virtual Pink Ribbon 5k will go directly to women and men fighting breast cancer in Frederick County. The fund has already raised over $2 million dollars for local patients since 1999.
