Frederick, Md (KM) The Frederick County Public School System says it will delay the start of winter sports competitions for about two weeks. Officials say after consulting with the local Health Department and the Return to Play Subcommittee, competitions in basketball, cheerleading, indoor track and field, swimming and diving,  and Unified Bocce and wrestling will resume on January 19th instead of January 4th as originally scheduled.

The winter competition will be reduced from six weeks to four weeks. Teams will remain in practice settings and minimal intrasquad competition exercises during the week of January 4th, with practice and intrasquad competition taking place during the week of January 11th.

There will be no spectators at athletic events; the games will be live streamed.

With the exception of swimming and diving in the water, all student athletes will be required to wear face coverings in all winter sports during inside practices and when outside on the benches and sidelines during competitions when social   distancing is not possible.
