Bridge Beams To Be Installed On MD 56 In Big Pool

Construction could lead to overnight detours on I-70

Big Pool, MD (KM) Bridge beams will be installed on the Route 56 (Big Pool Road) bridge over Interstate 70 in Big Pool in Washington County over the next two nights.

The Maryland Department of Transportation State Highway Administration (MDOT SHA) said the work will begin on Wednesday and Thursday (January 6th and 7th) at 8 p.m. and end by 5 a.m. the next day. That will mean closures of the left lanes on east and westbound I-70.

Crews will be working on westbound I-70 on Wednesday, and eastbound on Thursday.

A flagging operation will be in place along Route 56 during that time, along with portable message signs, detour signs, traffic cones, and traffic barrels.

Concrete General, Inc. of Gaithersburg will be doing the work.

The MDOT SHA reminds drivers to stay alert, focus on driving, look for reduced speed limits and other pattern changes, and slow down in construction zones.
