Frederick, MD (KB) The Matador Network has named Frederick, Maryland one of the top 25 “coolest” towns in America. The network encouraged travelers to schedule a visit in 2021.

Marketing & Communications Manager for Visit Frederick, Melissa Muntz, said she believes Frederick is a “hidden gem.”

“I think we really made this list because we are emerging. We are a hidden gem that people are just starting to recognize and realize that we’re here just outside of DC,” explained Muntz.

She said many things attract visitors to Frederick.

“We, here in Frederick, of course, know about all of the wonderful things we have here, our downtown, our historic sites, Carroll Creek Park, etc.,” she said. “These are all really unique special things that people really do get excited about when they get here.”

Frederick has always been a popular destination for day-trippers from Baltimore, Washington DC, and Pennsylvania, but Muntz said even more-so now due to the pandemic.

“We are definitely seeing more day-trippers now than ever, and we are very much catering to the road trip market,” she said.

She also noted that Frederick has enough entertainment to offer those who wish to stay in the city longer.

Muntz said the Visitor Center is open and Frederick is ready to welcome travelers when they feel comfortable visiting again.

“We tell people we are here when you’re ready. Although we definitely want visitors to come and we’re excited that they’re still coming, we don’t want to put anyone outside of their comfort zone,” she explained.

Muntz said social media is a good tool to use for those interested in visiting Frederick to see updated hours of operation and information about events.
