Annapolis, MD (KB) During a news conference on Tuesday, Governor Larry Hogan announced that a mass COVID-19 vaccination site will open at the Regency Furniture Stadium in Charles County.

“At the state’s request, the Southern Maryland vaccination site will be supported by FEMA, which has agreed to provide more than one hundred personnel, including trained vaccinators to help staff the site and provide technical assistance,” said Hogan.

He said this site will open no later than March 11th.

Governor Hogan also announced more vaccination sites that will open across the state.

“In addition, we will be opening mass vaccination sites on the Eastern Shore and in Western Maryland in the coming weeks,” he stated.

Hogan also launched a statewide appointment and pre-registration system to be used by mass vaccination sites.

Also on Tuesday, the Governor issued an executive order, stating school children should “mask up.”

“Masks are required for anyone over the age of five in any area of a school setting where interaction with others is likely, including classrooms, hallways, cafeterias, auditoriums, and gymnasiums,” he explained.

He also announced that the state has entered into an agreement with the University of Maryland, Baltimore and Johns Hopkins University to more than double Maryland’s surveillance of coronavirus variants.

Deputy Health Secretary Dr. Jinlene Chan said the UK and South African variants have been detected in Maryland, and they are more transmissible.

Lastly, the Governor issued a warning to Marylanders regarding COVID-related fraud. He said residents should be wary about anyone selling the vaccine and asking for their Social Security numbers.

“I want to make this very clear — no one can sell you a vaccine, no one can charge you for a vaccine,” he said. “It is free, no insurance information is required, and no Social Security information is required.”

Hogan said Marylanders who suspect fraudulent vaccine activity should notify law enforcement immediately.
